Learning How to Airbrush Online for Free!

Posted on: October 4, 2011

Discussion forums blogs & getting advice from other artists were previously the only way of learning how to airbrush online. However, an innovative resource is now available which allows anyone to learn, anywhere, anytime.

www.airbrushtutor.com displays video, text tutorials and free online resources that assist a budding airbrush artist as much as possible without being there. Through the home page one can navigate to learn the basic essentials required to get started, there is even a tutorial showing the requirements of setting up an airbrush space!

When you're ready to begin your tuition navigate to the tutorials tab. This brings up a page listing the different tutorials offered by airbrush tutor. If you have never held an airbrush then it is recommended that you start from 'Part One: Airbrush Control'. The tutorials here begin by demonstrating how to hold an airbrush correctly, then going a little more in depth begin teaching the fundamental airbrushing effects and strokes that make up every artwork. By the end of the first series you will have learnt how to control an airbrush correctly and will have completed your first major artwork: The Eye!

The second series can be accessed via the same tutorials tab. It demonstrates how to build on the fundamental effects that you learnt in part one by adding texture & realism. It begins by teaching you the figure eight texture - the most widely used texture in airbrushing, not just in portraiture but by movie makeup professionals alike. There are an infinite amount of textures that don't just have to be created using different motions with the airbrush - but can be created using different tools & utensils. A handy example is a feather texture which can be mimicked using the bristles on the end of a paintbrush. Part two is all about creating realism and giving you confidence to paint any artwork you desire.

Part three goes into airbrushing with colors & teaches you color mixing to achieve vibrant yet realisitic looking artworks. This chapter goes into the different methods of building artworks with colors and what to do to achieve the most vibrant looking result. Part three teaches a 'definitely don't do' in color mixing and gives some handy tips for how to mix colors for automotive application.

After review of all the tutorials you will be prepared with the knowledge to be able to create your own artoworks - whether you want to airbrush animals, people or places - you will have the ability to express yourself in a whole new way, and have people gasping in disbelief at the astounding artworks you're creating.

Congratulations. You're an airbrush artist!
